Ruth M. Hanson

Ruth M. Hanson, age 103 of Sun Prairie, formerly of Rio, passed away peacefully Friday, November 3, 2017.

She was born June 12, 1914 in Hampden Township, the daughter of Joseph and Agnes Weisensel, the second oldest of eleven children. She attended a one-room school house with her brothers. Ruth worked several years helping out family until she was employed as a chef for a doctor in Madison when she met the love of her life, Maurice Hanson. They were united in marriage February 8, 1939 in East Bristol. They moved onto the family farm south of Rio after marriage. Maurice and Ruth had a love and heart for taking other children into their home as their own. Ruth had a passion for gardening, taking care of her yard, the outdoors, and the farm animals.

Survivors include daughter Sylvia (Rod) Norman, granddaughter Heather (Matt) Olsen, great grandchildren Julius and Violet Olsen, two sisters Gladys Olson and Helen Schwoerer and many other nieces, nephews, other family and friends. She is further survived by very close family friends Charles and Lucille Kester.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Maurice, four brothers and four sisters.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, November 8 at 11 AM at Spring Prairie Lutheran Church in Keyeser with Rev. Sylvia Lee-Thompson officiating. Interment will follow at the church Cemetery. Visitation will be held Tuesday, November 7 from 5 to 7 PM at Grasse Funeral Home in Rio and again from 10 AM until the time of services at the church Wednesday.
