Reedsburg Location

Our Reedsburg location on 312 N. Park Street was founded in November, 1945 when Freelan Bartlett purchased the home from Eugenia Ellenburg, a well respected piano and organ instructor. Mr. Bartlett had worked for many years with the Oehlers and Howland Funeral Service and Furniture Store in downtown Reedsburg. Mr. Bartlett founded the business on one thought and one direction…to serve the needs of this community in an honest manner, with trained and dignified personnel.

From December, 1952 until August, 1953 the business was run by Glen Schreier. The business was purchased by Herve Phelps, who operated it until December, 1961. It was then run by George Hare of New Lisbon until June, 1963 when it was purchased by James Hammer. Mr. Hammer then operated the Hammer Funeral Home until December, 1986 when Mark Hoof, purchased the business. Mark operated Hoof Funeral Home until the current owners, Elliott & Nina Grasse and Shane & Jessica Hinton purchased the funeral business October, 2021. Mark Hoof retired March 2022. The facility was updated in early 2022 with new paint, flooring, furniture and fixtures to brighten and modernize the facility and a reception hall was added to accommodate funeral meals and receptions.

Grasse Funeral & Cremation Service continues to serve families in the greater Reedsburg and Sauk County area with the same philosophy as that of Mr. Freelan Bartlett, some sixty years ago. We will continue to perpetuate the ideals on which the business was founded. We also believe that creating a meaningful, appropriate and affordable service celebrating a life lived can be a rewarding and healing experience for all those involved.
