Welcome to the memorial page for

Annette Schmidt

April 23, 1963 ~ July 21, 2017 (age 54) 54 Years Old

Annette Schmidt, Waunakee, Age 54 went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Friday July 21st 2017 after a lengthy battle with cancer.

She grew up in Walddorfhaeslach, Germany and got married to Achim in December 1987. Philipp-Andreas and Rebekka were born in 1989 and 1992 and together they moved to the United States in 1995. Originally, she did not intend to leave her home country but as the opportunity to experience a different country arose she supported the idea and prepared for the move. New York, where the third child, Stacey-Aileen was born was her first experience of living in America. She loved it and connected with neighbors and was involved in church activities. Her next stop was Atlanta where she enjoyed the warm weather and southern life. Her humble and soft spoken approach to people gained her respect and many close friends. Another move, this time into the “cold North” to Waunakee, Wisconsin forced her to start over again.

Engaged with the activities of her children at school and at church she connected again quickly with many people. Her baking skills were put on display at concession stands during many swim meets, her “green thumb” was seen in the family’s flourishing garden.

Annette oversaw the construction of the family home in Waunakee; it reflects her love for detail and individual decoration. Cooking, taking care of her family, and providing for people in need were on the top of her agenda. On top of managing the household, she raised the kids – now four since Cai was born in Madison in 2003.

She spent time: learning with them, having the patience to guide them and teach them valuable life lessons. A trip with her Stacey-Aileen to the Caribbean and watching her youngest play in a Lacrosse tournament were the last highlights prior to her going home.

Once diagnosed with breast cancer she became involved in the Cancer Care Ministry at Blackhawk Church, which she and her family attended since moving to Wisconsin. She reached out to many women who shared the same challenges as herself.

In this ministry she also connected and fell in love with Camp Kesem, (www.campkesem.org) a very unique opportunity for children, whose families are impacted by cancer, to experience a fun filled week. Always upbeat and never complaining she impacted the people around her in a very special way.

In her hour of going home she was surrounded by her husband Achim, their children Philipp-Andreas, Rebekka, Stacey-Aileen and Cai as well as her parents Mathilde and Gerhard Lang. The whole family, her brothers Andreas (Tatjana with Konstantin and Viktoria), Markus (Valeska with Noah) and Dietmar (Rubeth) keep her in loving memory.

The Memorial Service will be held at Blackhawk Church, 9620 Brader Way, Madison Wisconsin on Saturday July 29th at 11AM with a reception afterwards. Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until the time of service at the church on Saturday morning. Grasse Funeral Services of Pardeeville is assisting the family. Online condolences may be made at www.grassefs.com. An additional Memorial Service is scheduled for the end of September in her hometown of Walddorfhaeslach, Germany.
