Theron J Anderson Obituary
Theron “Terry” James Anderson, age 74, passed away May 3, 2024 at Home Again in Columbus. He was born in Madison to Rodney J. and Dorothy M. (Wagner) Anderson February 10, 1950.
Terry attended Madison East High School and graduated in 1969. He enlisted in the Air Force and 5 days after high school graduation, left for basic training. He served in Vietnam for one year to the exact day. After 4 years in the Air Force, he worked for a few years at the Madison Post Office. He also then joined the Air National Guard and served 4 more years.
Terry’s favorite teacher chose him among 20 students in Wisconsin to attend a summer camp in Terry’s junior year of high school called Trees for Tomorrow. Little did his teacher know what an influence he was and that this would pave the way for Terry’s future career. Terry’s love for the great outdoors led him to the job he loved working for at the Dane County Parks Department. There he created nature trails, planted trees, built picnic tables and memorial benches and did groundskeeping. He disassembled a log cabin and rebuilt it in another county park. It remains there today and is used as a warming house for skiers. His attention to detail and fine craftsmanship showed through in all he did, including the beautiful pictures he took of nature and its surroundings. After retirement, he volunteered at the VA Hospital driving veterans to and from their appointments. He loved listening to their life stories and was honored to be able to help them.
He is survived by his sister Toni (Dean) Roberts; niece Katie (Nic) Bortz; and cousins. He is also survived by a special lady friend, Anne Spencer. They enjoyed many years and many road trips together. Terry was preceded in death by his parents; and an infant brother.
Per Terry’s request, no service will be held. In his final years, he was blessed to be taken care of by the staff at Home Again Assisted Living and Memory Care. We are forever grateful for the compassion, support, kindness and professional care received there through the years. Many thanks, also, to Generations Hospice and Dr. Biller and the VA Home Health Team. You all were exemplary examples of how we should all care for each other. Memorials may be given to Home Again, 110 Stuart St, Columbus, WI 53925 or Generations Hospice, 1028 S. Main St, Suite C, Fond du Lac, WI 54935.
If Alzheimer’s Could Speak, Talk to me….I can hear your words and they still touch my soul. Smile at me….My eyes can see you and feel your heart even if I don’t remember how to smile back. Hold my hand….I can feel your energy when our hands connect. It makes me feel safe and less alone. Love me…My heart can feel your love even if my words can’t express mine.
Rest in peace, Terry.
