Sylvia Helen Jean Weiss was born on July 28, 1926.  She was the daughter of Elsa and Walter Rusch of Reedsburg and younger sister to Marcella (Behn).

For 29 years of her life, Sylvia was a nurse’s aide at the Sauk County Health Care Center.  More importantly, while she was married to Gilbert Weiss, she gave birth to and raised seven children, Gerald Weiss (deceased),  Kathleen Knight, Jean Luetkens (Dennis), Leola Culver, Lois Fearing (Doug), Glenn Weiss (Mary) and Dianne Harvey (Don).  She was blessed with 12 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren.

Friends and family remember Sylvia as a kind, sweet and caring woman.  Her children would say she was also courageous, strong, and loving.  On her 98th and final birthday celebration in July, surrounded by family, she was asked to make her birthday wish. Without hesitation, she said  “My wish is that you all know how much I love you”  with the additional hope that she had been a good mother.

Mom, we have always known how much you love us and yes, you have been the best Mom ever!

Mom’s Christian faith was strong.  When she closed her eyes for the last time on Friday, November 8, she was prepared to join her Father in Heaven.  She died peacefully at the Reedsburg Area Senior Life Center.  

We will celebrate her life Wednesday, November 13, at 12 PM at St. John Lutheran Church, 307 6th Street, Reedsburg. A visitation will be held at 10 AM until the time of service at church on Wednesday.  A private burial and luncheon will be held for family members. In lieu of flowers, please consider a gift in Sylvia’s memory, to St. John Lutheran Church, the Reedsburg Food Pantry or Reedsburg Area Helping Hands, a nonprofit whose purpose is to “serve children and families by providing food, clothing, toys and other necessary items”.
