Shelly Gale (Strmiska) Kubicek, of Madison, a devoted mother and loving sister, passed away July 30, 2021, surrounded by her family. After many months of battle with pancreatic cancer, she was able to finally find peace. Throughout her life, she was a woman who had tremendous pride in her family.
Shelly was born November 6, 1959, alongside her twin sister, Kelly; and was proud to have been part of the first set of Strmiska twins. She grew up in Rio, Wisconsin, and loved to share stories of her childhood and years of working in the family grocery store. As a mother, her children were her pride and joy. She somehow always found a way to balance showing up to her children’s sporting events and her job in agriculture. Anyone who knew Shelly knew she was always someone you could count on. She was always willing to offer a helping hand and share her wisdom. She will be remembered as a kind soul who embraced those around her with compassion.
She is survived by her children: Heather Kubicek and Tyler Kubicek; siblings: Kimberly (Steve) Shank, Brenda (Jack) Christensen, Sheila Strmiska, Kelly Taylor, Kenneth Strmiska (Sabina Singh), and Katherine (Todd) Parlier. She is preceded in death by her parents Dale Emory Strmiska and Liane Katherine Strmiska.
A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, August 14 from 12 pm to 4 pm at the Rio Depot (located at the intersection of Lincoln Ave and W Rio St in Rio, Wisconsin). The family wishes that there would be no flower donations.
