Sandra Jean Hughes, age 84, passed away on February 23, 2024 at Casa de Oakes in Reedsburg, WI, her town of residence. Sandi was born on November 20, 1939 in Milwaukee, WI to Harold and Beth Rietz. 

She graduated from Milwaukee’s Washington High School in 1958. Sandi married Owen Hughes, her husband of 63 years, on May 6, 1961 in Milwaukee’s Trinity Presbyterian Church. Sandi and Owen moved to Port Washington, WI, in 1971, where they resided for 36 years until moving to Reedsburg in 2007. Sandi worked primarily as a Medical Transcriptionist until her retirement. 

Sandi was a strong, upbeat woman whose laugh was contagious. She was adored as a wife, mother, and grandmother. A devoted Christian, Sandi’s faith was her pillar.

She is survived by her husband Owen; son Randall Hughes and his wife Janice; daughter Lori Penkwitz and her husband Terry. She has 5 wonderful grandchildren,  Zachary and Allison Hughes, and Logan, Anna, and Jenna Penkwitz.

Visitation will be held at Grasse Funeral Home in Reedsburg from 4 PM to 7 PM on Thursday, February 29. Funeral Services will be held at St. John’s Evangelical Church on Friday, March 1st at 11 AM. Visitation will also be held at 10 AM at church until the time of service. Attendees are welcome to join the family afterwards for Sandi’s burial at St. John’s Cemetery and a luncheon at Church.
