Roman J Hasselberger Obituary
Roman John Hasselberger, 93, of Cape Coral, FL, passed away peacefully after a brief battle with cancer Tuesday, December 17, 2024. He was born on February 3, 1931, to William and Julia (Duval) Hasselberger. Roman grew up as one of fourteen siblings on the family farm in Marshfield, Wisconsin.
On September 17, 1952, Roman married Mary Jean Bittner in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Together, they built a life filled with love and devotion, settling in Wauwatosa, WI, where they had their five children: Ramona, Sharon, Linda, Susan, and Steven. In 1975, Roman relocated his family to Cambria, WI, where he and Mary Jean took over the Spring Valley Campground. As campground owners, they fostered a sense of community and hospitality that touched the lives of countless visitors. Roman also worked as a skilled mason, leaving behind a legacy of craftsmanship and dedication.
A proud veteran, Roman served his country with honor during the Korean War as a member of the United States Army. Prior to his service, Roman also worked in the United States Merchant Marine. Known for his tireless work ethic and resourcefulness, he never shied away from a challenge. Roman was the ultimate handyman, always ready to tackle a new project.
Affectionately known by many names, Roman, Ozzie, and Sonny. He was an energetic man, who loved to travel, especially to warmer climates, where he met and married his second wife, Concepcion “Connie” Lopez. Roman cherished time spent with family and, in his retirement, his greatest joy came from watching his grandchildren and great-grandchildren grow.
Roman is survived by his daughters, Ramona (Victor) Reed of Hales Corners, WI, Linda (George) Guzewski of Richfield, WI, and Susan Haas of Cape Coral, FL; his son, Steven (Donna) Hasselberger of Cambria, WI; his brothers, James Hasselberger of Valparaiso, IN (who sadly passed just five days after Roman), Alvin Hasselberger of Rhinelander, WI; his sisters, Barbara (Richard) Koselke of Dyer, IN and Alicia (Donna Treder) Hasselberger of Muskego, WI; his brothers-in-law, Charles Pankin of Menomonee Falls, WI and John Pankin of West Bend, WI; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews who loved him dearly.
