His BUDDY Bill Deir & his wife Chris currently live at Dutch hollow lake in the Green Knoll subdivision.
Bob was born in Chicago and spent the majority of his life there toggling back and forth to Colorado to visit his younger sister & his parents. He lived primarily in the Brighton Park Neighborhood located on the SW side of Chicago. He was an active member of the 4111 Club based out of "Phils Tavern" just down the block from his Chicago residence. He was a member of the "Casuals Social Club" and attended many parties, picnics and events over the course of many years. He loved to hang out with close friends and go to many restaurants and clubs. It was not unusual on a Friday night to head out to the Sabre room or Millionaires Club for dinner & dancing with some of his favorite couples including Jean & Ray, Carol & Kenny, Joyce & Stan, Marty and Virg etc. One of his favorite people he remained in touch with is Ramona Litterio from the old neighborhood who presently resides in Marion, Wisconsin.
After 30 years of driving a truck for a large firm known as HUNT, he remained loyal to the Local 705 Teamsters Union. He then retired and moved to Wisconsin. Bob later moved to Dutch Hollow
Lake from Richland Ctr. in 2001 after he and Jean built a lovely ranch home to call their own and live out their final days together. He had lived in Richland Center for several years working for Glen & Delores Scoville on the farm prior to moving to DH Lake.
His nickname was BLUES and in high school he played the trumpet having tried out for the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, which was a great honor despite being a local boy and he often joked he was a little fish in a big sea of talent. In addition to being a fan of many famous trumpet players, he also loved Neil Diamond and the Oak Ridge Boys. He enjoyed an occasional beer but his favorite was an old fashioned--sweet! He loved TV which was on pretty much everyday from 7am until the 10pm News ended. Watching Golf, Wisconsin Girls volleyball, Baseball and Bears Football were all favorite past-times. He loved to read historical non-fiction and was fascinated by the civil war too. He was an avid golf player up until 2 weeks before he became seriously ill. To play at the age of 87 was quite an accomplishment! He loved to fish for crappie, playing solitaire or poker, visiting the casino every week and going out for fish fries with family & friends. Lastly, he enjoyed working daily crossword puzzles, loved cats & dogs, chop suey, chili, spaghetti & meatballs, homemade split pea or bean soup and a good old Chicago hot dog too.
A couple of trees will be planted in his honor and our hope is to have a dedicated bench at DH Lake too. Family asks if you wish to donate to the "Friends of Dutch Hollow" E2670 Clubhouse Drive (608) 985-7294 in his name or consider giving to the local LaValle American Legion or Reedsburg Food Pantry (608)524-6272 located on 134 south locust street. Please do not hesitate to reach out to someone who may be lonely or lost or going through a difficult time and brighten their day with a simple act of kindness. Most say that Bob was never the same after his wife died and they would be right as grief can be long-lasting and hard to navigate. We are certain Bob has joined many of his family & friends and has at long last found peace and happiness in the arms of his adored wife Jean once again. Stay strong!
