Richard (Dick) Larson, age 76, passed away peacefully Tuesday, May 7, 2024. He was born December 16, 1947, the youngest of 8 children to Alfred and Norma (Benzine) Larson at their home in Lowville township during a snowstorm. His aunt Hazel helped deliver him as the doctor was unable to get to them in time.
Dick graduated from Rio High School in 1966, where he had been active in football and baseball. Hunting, especially deer and fishing were a big part of his life. He started working at 15 for his brother in law, Erling Landsverk. His first job was helping build the Rio Post Office. Most of his work life was as a cement finisher, having retired from Middleton Construction. He married Nancy Boomsma April 20, 1968. They lived at their home east of Rio for nearly 50 years, where many campfires, sleigh rides, hunting, and family gatherings were held.
Survivors include former wife and friend, Nancy; daughter Dawn (Tom) Larson Lynch of Madison; son Travis (Tanya) Larson of Rio; daughter April Larson (Martell Murray) of Rio; grandchildren Shea and Finn Lynch, Brandy (Travis) Langsdorf, Nick and Kristan Larson, Dante and Jada Graham; great grandchildren Bentley, Spencer and Beckett Langsdorf; sisters in law Barbara Larson, Judy Bunkoske, Sandy (Glen) Luther, Janet (Lee) Hollander, Cheri Linde, Jeanne Kearney; brother in law Tom Boomsma; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Dick is preceded in death by his parents; sisters and brothers in law Delores (Charles) Fandrich, Donna (Eldred) Ketchum, Joann (Erling) Landsverk, Shirley (Jerry) Skogen, Betty Leisemann Milian, and Lillian Blackley Goslin; brother Jerry Larson, sister in law Mary Zeidler, brothers in law Jerry Bunkoske and Brian Kearney; nephews Jason Luther, nephew Patrick Blackley, Shane Larson and Derrick Larson; great nephews Justin Landsverk, Christopher Landsverk, and Jase Luther, nieces Sheila Zeidler and Tessa Boomsma; parents in law John and Helen Boomsma.
Funeral service will be held Wednesday, May 15 at 11 AM at Grasse Funeral Home in Rio with Pastor Shellie Nelson officiating. Interment will follow at Bonnet Prairie Cemetery. Visitation will be held Tuesday, May 14 from 4 to 7 PM at Grasse Funeral Home in Rio and again from 10 AM until the time of service Wednesday. The family would like to acknowledge the wonderful and compassionate care Dick received at At Home Again in Rio and Prairie Ridge Healthcare in Columbus.
