Phyllis Jean Schenck, 93, of Reedsburg, passed away on Thursday, January 29, 2026. She was born on August 14, 1932 in Rock Springs, Wisconsin to Edmund and Mildred Schulte. She graduated from Reedsburg High School in 1950.
On April 26, 1952 she married Clarence Schenck in Reedsburg, Wisconsin at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church and was a longtime member there. She was very involved in Lutheran Women’s Missionary League, St. Peter’s Quilting group, Orphan Grain Train, Golden Agers and Lutheran Layman’s League parade floats (with Clarence). Phyllis was also very active in Sauk County Homemakers Association, as a cooking leader in the Endeavor 4-H Club for years, and as a volunteer at Reedsburg Area Medical Center.
Phyllis worked for various grocery stores including Krogeras a checker, then as a longtime baker with Ted and Fred’s and the next owners until her retirement. Lots of people knew her as the “donut lady” because she fried donuts for years in the early morning hours. She enjoyed chatting with shoppers and coworkers alike which made the days interesting. She loved making her family’s birthdays special with from scratch angel food cakes, carrying on her mother’s tradition. Over the years she made many beautiful quilts and table runners for her family.
Phyllis is survived by her four children: Gloria Schultz, Fond du Lac, WI; Linda Tessmer, McFarland, WI; Myrna (Ron) Green, Mountain Rest, SC; and Brian (Lori) Schenck, Quincy, IL. Six grandchildren: Heather (Eric) Snyder, Shawn Tessmer (Jessica), Ben (Rebekah) Greniven, Cody (Kristen) Azotea, April Azotea and Kara (Adam) Paul. Six great grandchildren: Carter Snyder (Hannah), Dylan Snyder, Drew Snyder, Landin and Vivian Azotea, Hudson Paul. She is also survived by her younger sister Lerna Mae Wiese, Loganville, WI, many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Clarence, three stillborn babies, brother-in-law Lester Wiese and son-in-law Carlton Schultz.
Visitation will be held at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, 345 N. Pine Street, Reedsburg, on Saturday, February 7th from12:30pm until the time of service at 2:00pm.
