Mary A. Schwenkhoff, 81 of Rock Springs, was born to eternal life on October 18, 2023 in Reedsburg.
Mary began her earthly life on June 9, 1942 in Wausau, WI, the second oldest child of Gordon J. and Marie (Gruessing) Edwards. She became a child of God through the washing of Holy Baptism at Trinity Lutheran Church in Wausau and was confirmed at that same church in 1956 and married Henry F. Schwenkhoff, her life partner, on October 11, 1975.
She was a high school graduate of Wausau East High School. After graduation she attended Concordia University in St. Paul, MN where she majored in education. Her thirty-four year teaching career began in Norfolk, Nebraska, followed by Faribault, Minnesota, Lakewood, Colorado, and finally St. Peter’s in Reedsburg. After she “retired” she continued her work with children as an aid in the Reedsburg School District.
Besides working with children she enjoyed working in her flower gardens, mowing the huge lawn that surrounded her country home, picking up tons of hickory nuts, quilting with her church friends, traveling, going in mission trips, entertaining, vacationing with her siblings “UP NORTH”, and spending time with her children and grandchildren.
She is survived by her son, Border Patrol Agent Henry Todd (Aileen); along with their children Victhoria, Scott, and Noah of Casa Grande, AZ; son Andrew James of Bountiful, UT; sister, Vivien of LaCrescent MN; three Brothers, James (Marilyn) of Fairview Park, OH, Larry (Carol) of Woodbury, MN and Ron of Wausau, WI; along with nieces, nephews and many other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband Henry, her parents, and her sister Pat.
Funeral services will be conducted at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Reedsburg on Saturday October 28 at 11 AM at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Reedsburg with Rev. Paul Crolius officiating. Interment will follow at Zion Lutheran Stone Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 9 AM until the time of service at church Saturday.
