Mary Catherine Becker, age 69, of Rio, passed away Wednesday, May 28, 2025 at St Mary’s Hospital in Madison. She was born June 4, 1955 in Dubuque, Iowa to Aelred and Marilyn Schollmeyer.

Mary married Paul Becker August 2, 1975 in Shullsburg, WI. She was a graduate of Shullsburg High School in 1973. She went on to Southwest Tech School in Fennimore to get her Associates Degree in Interior Design. Mary was a lab tech at the US Dairy Forage Research Center at UW-Madison for 40 years. 

Mary’s commitment to service was evident throughout her life. She was actively involved in Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, 4-H, the Rio Youth Club, St. Joseph’s Altar Society, and the Rio Historical Society. She also gave her time generously to the Columbia County Fair, where she was a familiar and welcoming face to many.

A proud member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Rio, Mary’s faith guided her and enriched the lives of those around her. She had a particular love for Christmas and took great joy in celebrating the season with family and friends.

Mary found her greatest joy in supporting her grandchildren, never missing an event or opportunity to cheer them on. She also supported the community, attending community events, Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts, and also was a concession stand extraordinaire. 

Mary is survived by her husband Paul Becker; children Peter (Kathy) Becker of Clemson, SC, Amy Madison of Blaine, MN, Jason (Daisy) Becker of Stoughton, WI, Jeff (Andrea) Becker, of Rio, WI, and Lisa Clark, of Rio, WI; grandchildren Joscelynne, Glendon, Mikayla, Garrett, Jack, Malia, Rory, Paxton, Nataleigh, Colt, and Zachary; siblings David Schollmeyer, Wally (Suzanne) Schollmeyer, Mike (Julie) Schollmeyer, Richard (Judi) Schollmeyer, Jane Schollmeyer, and Steve (Marcia) Schollmeyer; in-laws Larry (Kathy) Becker, Lynnette (Chris) Pozorski, Jill Becker, Joy Becker, and David (Renee) Becker. She was preceded in death by her parents Al and Marilyn and in-laws Richard and Linda Becker.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday June 3, 2025 at 10:00 A.M. at St. Patrick’s Church in Doylestown. Visitation will be held Monday June 2, 2025 from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at Grasse Funeral Home in Rio. Interment will be held at St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery in Rio.
