Marvin D. Cuff, age 79, passed away Friday, January 17, 2025. He was born on March 20, 1945 in Portage, WI to Geneva (Claxton) and Clifford Cuff.
He grew up on a farm outside of Rio. He graduated from Rio High School in 1963. After high school he joined the Army National Guard and served until January 25, 1971. He married Salley Wiest on January 22, 1966. They enjoyed almost 59 years of marriage together. They had 4 children. They raised them and lived in Rio and Sun Prairie.
He worked for EP McMahon & Sons building silos and was a cement mason. He retired in 2007 after working over 40 years. During the off season he would lay tile for Moyer. He laid tile at the East Towne Mall in Madison when it was built. He also laid the tile in many McDonalds throughout the country.
He had many hobbies and interests throughout his life, stock car racing, working on pit crews, snowmobiling, water skiing, boating, snow skiing, family canoeing/camping trips, truck and tractor pulls, going to stock car and midget races, and traveling, he went on 11 cruises and many bus trips. He took his last road trip in September 2024 to Niagara Falls.
He enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He would attend all family events such as sport and FFA events. He would attend and host all of the family events and holidays. He was known as the family mechanic. He was able to fix the vehicles until they all became so techy. He always kept in shape. He would walk his dog Maggie 3 miles a day until his hospitalization.
He is survived by his wife Salley; 3 children, daughter Robin (Keith) Merkes and their children Mallory (Shawn) McConochie and Mitchell (Michelle Roche) Merkes, son Mark (Elizabeth) Cuff, their children Robert (Brenda) Hasheider and Heidi (Josh) Gerike, daughter Casey (Brian) Moen and their children Bailey (boyfriend Gio), Cambrie and Brayden Moen; 8 great grandchildren Houston and Memphis McConochie, Celia and Arlo Hasheider, Anna, Sarah, Rebecca, and Jacob Gerike; his dog Maggie; sister Virginia Mays, sister in laws Judy Cuff and Barbara (Steve) Rostad; and several other family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; infant daughter Terri Cuff; grandson David Hasheider; mother and father in law Herman and Evelyn Wiest; brother Philip Cuff; and brother in law Robert Mays.
We would like to thank the Rio EMS, Rio Police department, Prairie Ridge ER and hospital staff, especially RN Scott, who was his PM shift nurse the last 2 nights, Life Star Ambulance and Grasse Funeral Home for their care and handling everything with dignity.
