Marjorie Trumbower Obituary

Marjorie May Trumbower, age 92, of Pardeeville, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 24, 2024. She was born May 24, 1931, to Arthur and Beatrice (Smith) Heaps.

Marge graduated from Pardeeville High School in 1949. Following in her mother’s footsteps, she graduated in 1953 from what is now known as University of Wisconsin–Oshkosh with majors in English and History. She was also a starting guard on the women’s basketball team. In 1958 she married Merlyn “Mert” Trumbower, who later became a pastor for the United Methodist Church (UMC). Marge taught English in high schools in Weyauwega, Wisconsin Dells, Pardeeville, and middle school in Mount Horeb. She also directed many school plays and coached forensics. Her former students describe her as “firm yet fair,” “exactly what I needed to help me in life,” and “compassionate for my well-being beyond just as a student.”

Marge enjoyed life. She was on the curling team with Mert, was a vocalist, and recorded a song with her sister Lois. She loved entertaining! Having family and friends in her home brought her great joy and she loved it when people would come to the lake property and build lifelong memories. Marge was also an avid reader and cheered for the Packers and Badgers sports teams. Marge’s personal relationship with Christ was one of the most important factors in her life. Her daily goal was to live her life in a way that would honor Christ. Her capacity to love others and give generously of herself was shown in how she cared and loved her children and grandchildren and people all around her.

Marge served in ministry her whole life. She and Mert served the UMC in Mount Horeb and Brodhead during his ministry. She was very involved with the Church spreading the love of Christ. She served in many leadership roles in children’s education, taught Bible studies, and was involved in Homemakers and other groups. She and Mert led many Church canoe trips with students and adults. At Mount Horeb UMC, they created and led The Real Life Singers, a group of high school students who performed at various churches and events sharing the story of Christ.

She is survived by her three children, Doug (Sheryl) Trumbower, Denise (Brian) Richter, and Dwight (Janeen) Trumbower; nine grandchildren, Amanda, Amelia, Amelie and Adrew Trumbower, Travis (Brittany) and Tyler Richter, Quinn, Paris and Sage Trumbower; and one great- grandchild, Mila Richter; her sister, Beth Milton; brother, Robert (Dianne) Heaps; sister-in-law, Carolyn Mafredas; as well as many beloved nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband and her parents; grandchild, Amelia Trumbower; siblings and their spouses, Arthur (Florence) Heaps, Jack (Elizabeth) Heaps, Lois (Carlyle) Van Selus; and brother-in-law, Merwyn Milton.

As we say goodbye to mom, we celebrate a life well-lived, a journey filled with purpose, and a heart that was always open. She has left this world, but her spirit remains, guiding and inspiring us. Mom’s story is a beautiful narrative of a life that was cherished, a soul that was honored, and a woman who was truly loved. Her memory will be held in the highest regard, a beacon of love and generosity that continues to shine bright.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, March 2 at 11 AM at the Pardeeville UMC. Visitation will be held at 9:30 AM until the time of service. Following her service will be a reception, then graveside service at the Pardeeville Cemetery.
