Marie Nobbs Obituary

Marie Ellen (Uphoff) Nobbs of Hancock Wisconsin (previously of Rio and Oregon) passed away April 7, 2023 at the age of 83.

She was the first born child to Fred and Lucille (Walker) Uphoff on December 13, 1939. She survived Polio as a toddler and went on to graduate from Oregon High School in 1958. She attended Madison General Nursing School, graduating as a Registered Nurse. She spent her nursing days caring for newborns in the Nursery at Madison General. On June 23, 1962, she married the boy down the road, Norman F. Nobbs. Together they welcomed three daughters, built a home in Oregon, farmed near Rio, and retired together in Hancock over their more than 60 years together.

Marie was active in many things. An accomplished seamstress, she taught her daughters to sew along with many 4-H members as she served as a leader in many different 4-H projects. She was active in Farm Bureau in Columbia County. She taught Sunday School at both St. John’s Lutheran Church of Oregon and Redeemer Lutheran Church of Rio. Once her job as a full-time mom eased into a more part time position, Marie took jobs off the farm, working in the deli at Piggly Wiggly in Pardeeville but her favorite was cooking for the daycare in Wyocena where she was known to many as “Grandma”.

Marie is survived by her husband, Norman; their daughters, Ellen (Joe) Pulver of Rio; Deb (Jim) Bacon of Hancock; and Sally (Michael) Darr of Ft. Wayne IN. She leaves behind grandchildren Kirie (Dustin) Friedrichs of Rio; Emily Bacon of Holmen; Alex Bacon of Hancock; Morgan Darr of Green Bay; Kaitlyn Darr of Ft Worth, TX; Jeremy (Jessica Dorn) Pulver of Bonner Springs, KS; Cody Pulver of Montello and great grandchildren, Catalina Christopherson, Freya and Cyrus Friedrichs. She is further survived by her brothers, Fred “Fritz” (Debra) Uphoff of Greenville, TX and Robert (Julia) Uphoff of Madison; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Lucille Uphoff; father and mother in-law, William and Marie Nobbs; brother and sister – in law, Robert and Kathleen Nobbs; great nephew, Phillip Kruschke, great niece, Adalyn Uphoff.

Services will be held Monday, April 17, 2023 at 11 AM at Redeemer Lutheran Church, Rio. Interment will follow at Rocky Run Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 10 AM until the time of service at the church.
