Margaret C. Schliesman

Margaret C. Schliesman, age 84 of Columbus, passed away Saturday, September 15, 2018 at Columbus Community Hospital.

She was born October 5, 1933 in Fountain Prairie Township, the daughter of Mark and Adeline (Warmke) Schliesman. She graduated from Columbus High School in 1951. She was an accounting and data processing manager for several businesses including 52 years at the Fall River Canning Company, Friday Canning Company, Chiquita Processed Foods, and Seneca Foods. Margaret was an active member of St. Jerome Catholic Church in Columbus and St. Joseph Catholic Church in Rio where she was a trustee for 14 years and served on the parish council for two years. She served on many women’s business and professional organizations such as the Madison and Columbus Business and Professional Women’s Clubs, the Southern Region where she was Region district president, and also the Rio Women’s Club. Margaret volunteered at the Columbus-Fall River Food Pantry, the Red Cross Blood Drives, St. Vincent de Paul Store, and the Elder Peer Support group. She had a passion for traveling including trips to Alaska, Russia, and Europe. She also had an interest in family genealogy.

Survivors include two brothers, Francis Schliesman of Beaver Dam and Eugene Michael (Kathleen) Schliesman of Rio; one sister, Rose (Leonard) Hein of Pardeeville; nieces and nephews, Tammy Westphal, Todd Schliesman, Troy (Michelle) Schliesman, Ann (Michael) Saunders, Suzanne Hein, Joseph (Jennifer) Hein, Elizabeth (David) Frederick, and Leonard, Jr. (Paula) Hein.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Jerrold Schliesman, sister Mary Belcher, brother-in-law Cy Belcher, sister-in-law Virginia Schliesman, and niece Regina Hein.

A memorial mass will be held Wednesday, October 3, 2018 at 11:30 AM at St. Jerome Catholic Church, 1515 Farnham Street, Columbus, with Father Garrett Kau presiding. Inurnment will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Rio. Visitation will be held from 10:30 AM until the time of service at the church.
