Lucetta T Hall Obituary

Lucetta Trapp Hall, age 102, passed away peacefully October 31, 2024 at At Home Again assisted living in Rio.

Lucetta was born on March 25, 1922 in Columbus to Louis and Christina Trapp, one of five children.

She attended Sutton grade school and graduated from Columbus high school. After attending Madison Business College in Madison, she was secretary to the superintendent of the University of Wisconsin Hospitals.

January 7, 1946 she married her big band dancing partner, Danny Hall at St. Raphael’s Cathedral in Madison. They were stationed at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, where they purchased and enlarged a trailer park in Fayetteville near the gates of Fort Bragg. After his Army discharge they returned to his hometown, Rio in 1952.

They opened a successful clothing store in Rio in 1953, expanding to a new larger building in 1957. Lu partnered in the business in many ways including ordering merchandise, designing window displays and making clothing alterations. After the sale of the store in 1970, Lu returned to work part time at the State of Wisconsin Justice Department for 13 years.

Lu was an avid gardener, canning and freezing the bounty and sharing much of it with family and friends. She was an accomplished seamstress and made/altered clothing and window drapes. She compiled extensive pictorial family histories of both the Trapp and Freidel families and enjoyed cooking, dancing, needlework, quilting, flower arranging and calligraphy. An excellent baker, family and friends always looked forward to fresh butter horns, yeast rolls and rhubarb pie. She was a loyal sports fan of the Badgers, Packers and Brewers.

Lu volunteered at Olbrich Gardens in Madison for many years and was active in the Rio Legion Auxiliary and St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Rio. She often reached out to those in need in the community with a visit and a gift of food or flowers.

Lucetta is survived by her children, Kathi (Ron) Rogers of Troy, Michigan, Phil Hall of Atlanta, Georgia, Randy (Linda) Hall of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Jack Hall of Madison and Brian Hall of Rio; eight grandchildren, Terri (Matt) Dahmer, Brad Rogers, Tami (Domi) Paschoud, Sean (Laryl) Rogers, Andy (Jen) Hall, Eric (Jennifer) Hall, Preston Hall and Darin Hall; and ten great grandchildren.

A funeral mass will be held Saturday, December 14, 2024 at 11 AM at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in East Bristol, WI with Father Joji officiating with a luncheon to follow. A visitation will be held Friday, December 13, 2024 from 4 PM until 7 PM at Grasse Funeral Home in Rio. Donations can be made to the Rio American Legion.
