Lorna Slaney, age 94, of Reedsburg, passed away at the Sauk Co. Healthcare Center Thursday, July 3, 2025. She was born May 17, 1931 in Reedsburg to William and Edna Klitzke. 

Lorna graduated from Reedsburg High School before continuing her education at a two-year Teacher’s College. On June 1, 1954, she married the love of her life, Maurice Slaney, in Reedsburg, beginning a partnership rooted in love, faith, and service to others.

Lorna lived a life of purpose and generosity. Her professional journey was varied and fulfilling — from teaching in a 1-room country school, where she touched the lives of many young students. Then working at Badger Ordnance and Hankscraft. She also enjoyed many years of waitressing.

Her commitment to her community was evident in her active involvement with Winfield Ladies, St. Peter’s Ladies Aid, and Bible study groups. She was a faithful member of St. Peter’s Church, where she shared her time and talents generously.

She loved to stay active and engaged, whether she was playing tennis, hiking scenic trails, bowling, or shooting pool. She had a passion for baking and reading, enjoyed playing cards with friends, and never passed up a chance to travel or volunteer her time. Lorna and Maurice enjoyed 28 winters in Mesa, AZ together. Her energy, kindness, and sense of fun made her a joy to be around. 

She is survived by her sons Gary (Karen) Slaney and Tim (Carla) Slaney; grandchildren Carli (Josh) Paletta, Brad (Chompu) Slaney, and Zach (Ellen) Slaney; great grandchildren Mara and Shay Paletta and Aurora Slaney; siblings Rupert Klitzke and LaVera Craker; and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Maurice Slaney; parents William and Edna Klitzke; siblings William Klitzke, Alvin Klitzke, and Elaine Newbury. 

A memorial service will be held Friday, July 11, 2025 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Peter’s Church in Reedsburg with Pastor Paul Crolius officiating. Visitation will be held from 9:30 A.M. until the time of service Friday at Church. A private family burial will be held.
