Lola A. Mader Obituary
Lola A.Mader (nee Myhre) passed away peacefully April 3, 2025, at the age of 91.
Lola was born December 20, 1933, the daughter of Martin and Verla Myhre (nee Horton). She had two brothers, John and Harley Myhre who predeceased her.
Lola spent most of her childhood on the family farm on Ross Road, Town of Scott, Cambria, Wisconsin, and playing in the family woods on Larson Road, just around the corner from the farm. She loved to be outdoors. She always had pets and her love of nature continued throughout her life.
Lola was a lifelong learner, teacher, and reader. She graduated from Cambria High School in 1951. She attended Columbia County Normal and graduated as a teacher. She taught in one-room schools in Columbia County including Welsh Prairie School and Hilldrop School. She was an active member of Rosedale Presbyterian Church and taught Sunday School and Bible School there.
Lola married her high school sweetheart, Richard "Dick" Mader on July 19, 1955. She and Dick lived in the Mader family cheese factory, Centerville Cheese, on Inglelhart Road outside of Cambria. They had three children, Richard, Diane, and Sandra.
The family moved to Beaver Dam in 1966. Lola loved Beaver Dam and worked as an elementary school teacher in the Beaver Dam Schools. She volunteered with the Beaver Dam Community Theatre and was active singing in the choir and teaching Sunday School at Grace Presbyterian Church in Beaver Dam. Lola also continued to work toward her Bachelor's Degree and graduated from UW-Oshkosh in 1972.
Lola changed directions and began working at Fox Lake Correctional Institution and later Taycheedah Correctional Institution teaching Adult Basic Education. She was proud of her contributions to helping those in the system. Lola made many lifelong friends among her colleagues.
When Lola and Dick retired they moved back to the Town of Scott. Lola resided there until her death. She loved living on the Ross Farm and over the years raised pet "miniature" goats, peacocks, and bantam chickens. She loved to garden, take walks, feed the birds, watch the butterflies, and read, read, read. She always had dogs and cats and her dog Christine and cat Pumpkin will miss her.
Lola loved children. She took great joy in visits from her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren as well as her nieces, nephews, cousins, and all their children. She is survived by her children Richard P. Mader (Manette Babb), Diane L. Mader (Russell Schramm), Sandra J Odegaard, grandchildren Jennifer Odegaard and Paul Mader Schramm (Heather Mader Schramm), her great-grandchildren Jayla and Melo Akuetteh and Harrison Mader Schramm. She is further survived by her brother-in-law Frank Saunders and many beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Lola's memorial service will be held Saturday, April 12, 2025, at 12:00 P.M. at Rosedale Presbyterian Church (where she was baptized) with Susan Sommers officiating, rural Cambria. A visitation will be held at 11:00 until the time of service Saturday. Inurnment will take place at the Rosedale Cemetery. A luncheon will follow the burial.
Lola was fiercely independent. I think that's one of the reasons she lived to be 91. Lola still made her own dump runs on Saturday mornings. Lola lived and died on her own terms and we are grateful she was able to do so. We thank the librarians at Angie W. Cox Public Library in Pardeeville who kept her in books.
Grasse Funeral Services in Pardeville is assisting Lola's family. We thank them for their professional and kind care.
Lola was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was well-loved in return. She chose I Corinthians 13 to be read at her funeral." And now these three remain: faith, hope, and love. But the greatest of these is love."
