Larry Paul Nighbor, 66, entered heaven on Tuesday, March 19, 2024 after a massive heart attack. One minute he was doing what he loved, playing in the dirt with his tractor, and the next he was meeting Jesus.
Larry was born November 19, 1957 to Lawrence and Alice (Tetzlaff) Nighbor. He graduated from Cambria High School in 1975 and went on to become a mechanic–both automotive and industrial. He married Valerie (Plautz) on October 21, 1978 and they had 45 amazing years together. He enjoyed hunting, reading, and spending time with his family–especially his wife, daughter, son-in-law, and two grandchildren. Larry went out of his way to show his family how much he loved them. He loved being a grandfather and made every effort to be involved in their lives.
Larry is survived by his wife, Val, his daughter and son-in-law (Trina and Fred Cromwell) as well as his grandchildren, Logan and Amelia Cromwell. He is further survived by his mother, Alice, siblings Linda Klawitter, Shirley (Scott) Gelinskey, Keith (Kate) Nighbor, and Steven (Sandy) Nighbor, in-laws Ruth Plautz, Kathy (Jeff) Quade, Mike Plautz, Carla (Charlie) Spires, and Dana (Randy) Stutesman along with nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father, Lawrence, sister Karen, brother-in-law Russ, brother-in-law Jerry Smits, and father-in-law Walter Plautz.
The family would like to thank the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office, Cambria Fire & EMS, and all the first responders for their kindness and compassion. It is greatly appreciated.
At Larry’s request, there will be no formal memorial service. A private burial will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the family.
