John D. Palen

John D. Palen, 60 of Pardeeville, passed away Tuesday, November 23, 2021 at home surrounded by his family. He was born January 29, 1961 in Dubuque, IA, the son of Harold and Rita (Schrup) Palen. 

John attended Wahlert Catholic High School and graduated in 1979 and then went on to college and graduated from the University of Iowa with a four year degree. He was united in marriage to Joann Gerhard May 14, 1994 and they were blessed with two children. John was employed in the food sales industry including Schwans/Red Barron and most recently Blue Bunny. John was an avid dart player for over 30 years, including fulfilling the role of league president. He also enjoyed camping, hunting, and socializing with everyone he met. 

Survivors include wife Joann of 27 years; two sons Nick (fiancé Andraya) of Beaver Dam and Ben of Pardeeville; brother Dave (Elaine) Palen of Dubuque, IA; nephews Jake (Mia) and Joe (Megan), his two companions Meka and Bo and grandpuppies Tito and Dixie. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Carl Anthony "Tony", a POWMIA.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, December 4 at 11 AM at Grasse Funeral Home in Pardeeville with Father T. Joji Reddy presiding. A celebration of John's life will follow from 1 to 4 PM at the Elks Lodge, 201 W Conant Street, Portage. The family would like to express a special thank you to Agrace Hospice and the U.W. Carbone Cancer Center for the care they had given John.
