John Emmons, 79 of Monroe, formerly of Pardeeville, passed away Monday, July 17, 2023 at Pleasant View Nursing Home in Monroe. He was born July 30, 1943 at Madison General Hospital, the second of eight children to Homer and Vivian (Soule) Emmons.
He graduated from Pardeeville High School in 1961. He served as a dental technician in the U.S. Army from 1962-1965, including time served in Vietnam. He graduated with honors from UW-CALS with a B.S. Degree in Agriculture in 1971. John taught a half year at Monroe High School prior to graduation from U.W., then taught for two years at Pecatonica High School from 1971 to 1973, one year at Columbus from 1973-1974 and 26 years at Monroe High School from 1974-2000. As advisor for the Monroe FFA, he celebrated the many achievements of the chapter as they were recognized as the top chapter in Wisconsin several times and earned numerous district, sectional, state, and national awards. The FFA proved students with a strong foundation for career building as well as leadership opportunities which helps in preparing them for leadership roles as adults. While teaching, he was awarded an Honorary State FFA Degree, Honorary American FFA Degree, and was named a member of the Wisconsin FFA Hall of Fame.
John is survived by four sisters, Linda (Robert) Dates, Martha (William) Breneman, Pat (Betty) Emmons, and Cindy (Carl) Breneman. He was preceded in death by his parents Homer and Vivian; brothers Jim and David, and sister Virginia.
A time of remembrance and celebration of life will be held Sunday, September 17 from 12:30 to 2 PM at Koning's Maple Leaf Event Center in Monroe.
