Jerold "Jerry" Erickson Obituary

Jerold Victor Erickson, age 73, passed away peacefully in his home, Saturday, February 3, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. Jerry was born November 18, 1950 in Madison, the son of Burnell and Leona (Wendt) Erickson.

He was the 7th child in a family of 16. Jerry still managed to stand out as the “secret” favorite among many of his siblings. Growing up in such a large family helped to provide the foundation of family values which Jerry carried with him throughout his life.

Jerry graduated from Portage High School in 1968. In 1970 he began his career at Unimin Sand Plant in Portage, where he remained a dedicated employee until his retirement in 2016. Jerry was a Union Steward for many years, a Safety Committee member, and a mentor to many co-workers.

In 1969, Jerry married the love of his life, Sharon Schultz. They put down their roots in the town of Poynette, where they raised their two children, Corey and April. Family was the most important thing to Jerry and he made it his goal in life to provide for them. Nothing made him happier than treating his wife like a queen.

In addition to spending time with family, Jerry also enjoyed bowling, horseshoes, softball, fishing, and of course rooting for the Packers. Not only a good softball player, Jerry was also a coach for both tee ball and women's softball teams. Jerry was the type of man who would do anything he could to help others. If someone called to ask for his help, he would be on his way before they could hang up the phone.

When Jerry wasn't busy with any of these things he could often be seen mowing and maintaining his lawn, which was one of the most beautiful yards in Poynette. He took a lot of pride in a job well done and this was evident in every aspect of his life. Jerry’s remarkable sense of humor and ability to convince anyone of anything, including his innocence, earned him the nickname among his family of “Saint Jerry.” Although that name was given in a loving jest, the truth is “Saint Jerry” is not far off the mark. Jerry was the epitome of a good man, he was the ideal role model of what a husband and father should be. Jerry and Sharon’s love and dedication to one another is unparalleled. He will be dearly missed.

Jerry will be fondly remembered for many things, humor, friendliness, dependability, work ethic, loyalty, lawn mowing, but most of all the love and devotion he had for this family which will remain with us always.

He is survived by his wife Sharon Erickson; son Corey (Angie) Erickson; daughter April Tollison; grandchildren; Courtney Erickson, Samantha Erickson, Ariel Tollison, and Luke Christopherson; siblings, Joyce (William) Monteufel, John Erickson, Jay (Kay) Erickson, Janette (Robert) Sullivan, Jason (Jane) Erickson, Jack Erickson, Jill (Doug Bartels) Erickson, Joann (Steve) Griffith, Jarvis (Christine) Erickson, Janese (John) Walter, Jeffrey (Rhonda) Erickson, and Jared (Tammy Ninmann Borde) Erickson. He was preceded in death by his parents Burnell and Leona (Wendt) Erickson; siblings James, Judith, and Jerome Erickson.

The family would like to thank Agrace Hospice for their wonderful care and support. A memorial open house will be held at Pacific Town Hall on Sunday, February 18  from 1 to 4. W7503 Hwy 16 Pardeeville, WI.
