Jean M. Albers, age 97, of Reedsburg passed away March 2, 2025. She was born July 19, 1927, in Winfield Township, Sauk County, Wisconsin, to Arlow and Hazel (Brooks) Giles.
Jean graduated from Reedsburg High School in 1945. On June 11, 1947, she married Melvin H. Albers at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Rock Springs, Wisconsin. She was a legal assistant for 40 years, retiring in 1994 from Kahler Law Offices.
Jean and Melvin became owners of the Winfield Homestead Farm which dates back to 1848. Together they completed an original watershed management project, (which had been started in 1938). The Homestead was restored to native prairie, riparian wetlands and wildlife habitat by planting thousands of trees and wildlife food patches to establish a tree farm. Jean enjoyed working on this property well into her eighties.
Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin and brother, Duane (Carolyn) Giles. She is survived by her son, James (Karen) Albers, Reedsburg, WI; Grandchildren: Nicole (Kevin) Sontag, Eudora, KS; Courtney (BJ) Richter and their children, Fredrick and Grant, Holden, MO; Jeremy Olson and his children, Ana and Sariya, Madison, WI; Marisa Braun, Madison, WI, and her son, Elliot, East Lansing, MI. She is also survived by other relatives and many friends.
Services will be held Saturday, April 12, 2025 at 11:45 A.M. at Grasse Funeral Service in Reedsburg with Pastor Kris Totzke officiating. A visitation will be held at 10:30 A.M. until 11:30 A.M. on Saturday. Interment will be held at Greenwood Cemetery in Reedsburg, WI. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Reedsburg Area Food Pantry.
