Irene M. Schoellig, age 93, of Reedsburg passed away peacefully after a brief illness, surrounded by her family Saturday, December 9, 2023 at Our House Assisted Living in Reedsburg. She was born on July 12, 1930 in Boscobel, Wisconsin, the daughter of Christopher and Lila Bolchen. She married Ernest Schoellig on November 15, 1948 in Boscobel, Wisconsin.
Irene graduated from Boscobel High School in 1947. After marrying Ernie, they began raising their family on a Grant County farm. Later they moved to Sauk County where they worked and raised their four children. Irene enjoyed gardening, sewing, reading and especially her beloved children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Her loved ones will fondly remember her strength, independence, sense of humor, love of ice cream, her civic responsibility, and her dedication to staying on top of current events. She was very active at church and found joy in her involvement with the Community Open Table meals held at St. John Lutheran Church.
She is survived by her children, Don (Kay) Schoellig, Shirley (Russ) Morey, Sue (Jon) Welch; and many beloved grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews; and other dear friends and relatives. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brother LeRoy Bolchen; sister Dorothy Pulvermacher; daughter Sharon Hummel; and son-in-law John Hummel.
A private family funeral service will be held. At a later date a private family interment will take place at the Boscobel Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please send memorials to the St. John Lutheran Church, Good Samaritan fund, it would be greatly appreciated.
The family extends their sincere appreciation for the care and kindness given by the medical providers and staff of the Reedsburg Area Medical Center, Our House Assisted Living, and Agrace Hospice.
