Grace (aka Gracie, Goosie, Amazing Grace) Allene Hinzman, passed away October 23, 2025 at At Home Again in Rio, WI. She was born Grace Amend on November 21, 1938 in Portage, WI to George and Irene Amend. Lawrence “Sporty” Porter became a father to Grace and her many siblings after George passed away.

Grace grew up in Rio from the age of 8 and graduated from Rio High School. She then attended Harper Method Beauty School and worked as a beauty operator in Madison, WI. After that, she did in-home childcare for 40 years.

She met her lifelong love David Hinzman as a teenager. They were married in 1960 and made a home in Rio. They celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary on April 9, 2025.

Grace was a loving, funny woman. She was a thrifter, a baker, a gambler, a social butterfly, a talker, a singer, and a happy member of the Red Hat Club. She liked to have fun! She was a traveler, and visited places including Alaska, Las Vegas, Seattle, Washington DC, and European countries. She visited Graceland! She loved Elvis Presley and Paul Newman. She was a mother to many. 

Grace is survived by her beloved husband David “Thunder”; her children Lauri Porter, Lisa Marine, Joel Hinzman and Jason “Lefty” Hinzman; her grandchildren, Jeffrey Hinzman, Elizabeth Porter, Matthew Porter, Mira Grace Hinzman, and Ruby Marine; and her great-grandson Braelyn. 

Grace was preceded in death by her parents Irene, George, and Sporty; her siblings Willo, Bernadine, Audrey, and Donna; brothers George, Bob, Joe, Richard, David, Terrence, Mike and Jimmy. She had many special friends, including her in-laws. 

A Memorial Service will be held Tuesday, October 28, 2025 at 11:00 A.M. at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Rio with Rev. Ann Wickland officiating. Visitation will be held at 9:00 A.M. until 10:30 A.M. Luncheon to follow the Memorial Service.
