Gordon W Sutfin Obituary

Gordon W Sutfin age 81 of rural Pardeeville passed away May 4, 2025. He was the first child born to Cecil and Elaine (Kaiser) Sutfin. Gordon was enamored with the waitress at the Pardeeville Truck Stop, Glenda Hawley, and they married and celebrated 52 years of marriage at the time of her passing.

Gordon was always a hard worker and started at a very young age. He grew produce, loaded it into his wagon and walked to Rio where he sold it door to door. Gordon mowed lawns, set pins at Rio Bowling Alley, and he worked for the Cambria Canning Factory, the Rio Glove factory, Dawn Foods, and finally retiring from Penda Plastics.

He enjoyed tinkering in his garage with any project he could work on, riding bicycle, gardening, embroidering, hunting, yard work, and country drives. At the age of 70, Gordon completed the classes to receive his GED.

In 2024, both Gordon and Glenda were diagnosed with cancer. They sold their home in Pardeeville and moved to Portage. Having a love like they did, Gordon gently cared for Glenda during her illness. In June of 2024, Gordon’s heart was broken by Glenda’s passing, but he found his days filled with care and compassion from the staff at Our House.

He is survived by his sister Christine (Richard) Damon; Glenda’s niece; and Joanne (Ron) Johnson. Gordon was preceded in death by Glenda and his parents. Special thanks to Joanne Johnson, for the many calls and visits. Gordon enjoyed the company of his animals. If you would like to make a donation in his memory, please choose an animal related non-profit such as the Columbia County Humane Society.

A memorial service will be held Friday, May 9, 2025 at 11:00 A.M at Grasse Funeral Home in Rio. A visitation will be held at 10:00 A.M. until the time of service on Friday. Interment will take place at Ohio Cemetery.
