Francis "Mac" E. McDonough Obituary

Francis "Mac" Edward McDonough, age 86, of Lime Ridge, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, surrounded by loved ones.

He was born on March 7, 1939, in Richland Center, Wisconsin, the son of Thomas and Edythe (Sumwalt) McDonough. Mac graduated from Weston High School in 1957 where his love of sports began. He competed on Weston’s first football and baseball teams in 1956 with the baseball team placing 3rd at state in 1957.

On December 19, 1959, Mac was united in marriage to Judith Ann Cohoon in Reedsburg. Together they shared 66 years of marriage and life in the Lime Ridge area.

Mac worked as a welder for many years, a trade he took pride in. He was a long-time member of UMC in Lime Ridge.

Mac was a devoted husband, father, and lifelong athlete whose passion for the outdoors and competitive spirit enriched every chapter of his life. He participated in league softball and bowling well into his 80s, achieving remarkable success, including multiple 300 games, an 800 series, and appearances at more than 25 U.S. National Bowling Championships. He was also proud to play on multiple World Champion Winter Softball teams.

Beyond sports, Mac found joy in traveling by RV, panning for gold, and exploring national parks and campgrounds across the country. Fishing was one of his favorite pastimes, and he never missed an opportunity to share those moments with anyone willing to join him.

Above all, Mac treasured time with his grandchildren, delighting in introducing them to the activities and adventures he held dear. His warmth, enthusiasm, and love for life touched all who knew him. He was always willing to greet you with a big hug and a hearty pat on the back, and his legacy will be cherished always.

He is survived by his wife Judy; children Thomas (Robin), Robin (Nickie), Jeff, and Joel (Jana); grandchildren Josh (Christina), Shea (Tom) Kraeplin, Amanda (Michael) Button, Jade, Skyler, Trent (Ali) Uselmann, Brynn (Carson) Kaiser, Brenna (Michael), Bryce (Azelin), Brogan, Conor; 11 great grandchildren; brother Willard; sister-in-law Linda Shaffer; and many nieces, nephews, other family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; son Monte; sister-in-law Kay; and 3 brothers-in-law, Mike, Roland, and John.
