Francis Jampetero Obituary

Francis Thomas Jampetero, age 100, of Colorado Springs, CO, passed away in July 21, 2018 in Colorado Springs, CO.  He was born on February 26, 1918 in Minersville, PA, the son of Joseph and Mary “Mimi” Jampetero.  He married Luella Knuteson on February 16, 1963.  Francis graduated from Cass Township, PA High School in 1935, where he played amateur boxing and earned a football scholarship to LaSalle University in Philadelphia, PA.  Francis enlisted in the US Navy in 1937, In 1939 aboard the USS Brooklyn he participated in the opening of New York World’s Fair.  Brooklyn was one of the base ships rescuing US submarine squali’s in 1939.  On December 7, 1941, attacks to the USS Pennsylvania in Pearl Harbor, he hauled people out of the burning water.  He served on the USS Florikan in the Aleutian Islands and then the Philippines on his next assignment.  Aboard the USS Montrose, he served in Incheon South Korea and then in Vietnam.  Francis was also affiliated with the Apollo Program at Cape Canaveral.

He made a priority to come “home” for visits and many special events.  He was quite the jokester and creator of many shenanigans and our legend, We miss you.

Francis is survived by his daughters, Glorianna Jampetero of New Mexico, and Francine Jampetero of Colorado Springs, CO; sisters-in-law, Carol Werner of Milwaukee and Beverly (James) Godt of Canon City CO; nephews, John Fowlkes of Oregon and William Fowlkes of Virginia and a niece Pamela Blair.  He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Luella (Knuteson); his parents Joseph and Mary Jampetero; a sister Grace Fowlkes and by his brother John Jampetero

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, July 28, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at the GRASSE FUNERAL HOME 119 Industrial Drive. Pardeeville, burial will follow in Wyocena Cemetery with Military Honors conducted.  Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service on Saturday at the funeral home.
