Florence Rose Kuhn Bankers passed away November 24, 2023 at the Randolph Health Center Nursing Home, only four days after turning 98 years old and surrounded by family members throughout her final days. Florence was born November 20, 1925 to Edgar and Iva Mae Cuff Kuhn.
She appreciated being named in memory of an Aunt Florence, sister of Edgar, who died at the age of 11 of the 1918 flu epidemic. Florence attended Welch Prairie Grade School. She graduated from Cambria High School in 1943 and from secretarial school in 1944. She worked as a secretary at Kraft Foods in Beaver Dam until 1947.
Florence married Raymond Bankers May 21, 1947 at St Patrick Catholic Church in Doylestown. In her words, she had a very special loving husband for 64 years, until Ray passed in 2011. They moved to Pardeeville in 1951 and began their busy 32 years in the grocery business, known as Ray’s Fine Foods. In their retirement they organized Pardee Tours van and bus trips to events. They spent time volunteering at Divine Savior Hospital, Helping Hands and church events.
Along the way Florence was a wonderful mother to five children, a grandmother to four children and a great grandmother to eleven. She was very loving, caring, supportive and generous to all. She was always very social and readily made new friends of all ages as she lost so many as she aged. Up until Covid she enjoyed meeting to have lunch and play cards with a group of ladies.
She is survived by her daughter Lynn Ann (Dan) Dray of Duluth, MN; sons, Gary (Melodie deceased) of Olympia, WA, and Michael (Jane Marie) of East Aurora, NY; granddaughters, Juanita (Casey) Tomlinson of Poynette and Suring, WI, Marissa (David) Mahagnoul of Duluth and Heather (Tim) Johnsen of Virginia, MN; brother-in-law Eugene (Jeanne) Bankers of Windsor CT and eleven great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. Florence was preceded in death by her parents; husband Ray; two sons Brian and Bruce; grandson Michael; three brothers Arnold, Bill and Vernon, in-laws Mary and Martin Bankers and many other relatives and friends.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, December 1 at 11 AM at St. Faustina Catholic Parish in Pardeeville with Father Joji Reddy presiding. Interment will follow at Pardeeville Cemetery. Visitation will be held Thursday, November 30 from 4 to 7 PM at Grasse Funeral Home in Pardeeville and again from 10 AM until the time of service at the church Friday. Memorials can be sent in her name to 7447 Boston Harbor RD NE, Olympia WA 98506 and will be provided to charities that she supported.
