Evelyn M. Sekel, age 91, of Doylestown, passed away on Sunday, October 26, 2025. Evelyn was born on November 6, 1933, in Portage, Wisconsin, to Frank and Anna (Moll) Lenz. She was the youngest of 10 children. She married Melvin Sekel on December 6, 1952 and they were married 50 years.
Evelyn worked for the U.S. Postal Service until her retirement, working as a postal clerk in the Doylestown and Fall River post offices and seasonal work at the Portage post office. She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Doylestown until it closed and then joined Zion Lutheran in Columbus. She was also a member of St. John’s Ladies Aid.
Evelyn enjoyed spending time with her family and their pets, traveling, going out to eat at local supper clubs, playing the slot machines at the casinos, and she looked forward to the Doylestown Firemen's Picnic, where she was known as the “Potato Salad Lady”. She proudly worked at the picnic for over 50 years. Evelyn enjoyed watching and going to sporting events, doing word search books, listening to country music and watching the Danny O’Donnell show. She will be remembered by her spunky attitude, her goulash, English toffee and peanut butter “bars”.
Evelyn is survived by her daughter, Jean (Gary Drunasky) Sekel; son, Richard Sekel; and daughter, Doreen (Neil) Borde; granddaughters, Tammy DeGroff, JoAnne DeGroff, and, Taylor Borde; and grandsons, Matthew Sekel, Luther Sekel, and Carson Borde, and special nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Melvin; daughter-in-law, Sandra Sekel; granddaughter, Emily Sekel; her nine siblings: Herman, William, Caroline, Edward, Walter, Helen, Ada, Leonard, and Robert; brother-in-law & sister-in-law Frederick & Phyllis Minick; niece Bonnie Minick, and special friends.
Funeral Services will be held on Monday, November 3, 2025 at 11:00AM at Grasse Funeral Home in Rio, WI with Rev. Ben Zuberbier officiating. Internment will take place at Doylestown Cemetery previously St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:00AM-11:00AM prior to the service.
The family would like to thank her nieces, nephews, friends, and pets for their many visits throughout the years. Mom was blessed to have such a wonderful support system!
