Evelyn Marie Finnegan, age 95, passed away peacefully in her sleep on March 1, 2026. She was born on December 20, 1930, in Wonewoc to Alfred and Lucy (Thew) Berndt, the third of twelve children.
Evelyn married Patrick Finnegan, in 1948. Together they shared 44 years of marriage until his passing in 1993. The marriage was blessed with their son, Howard.
She spent her adult life in Reedsburg. She was employed by Gerber for 42 years and loved her work.
Evelyn found happiness in life’s quiet pleasures. She enjoyed jigsaw puzzles, word searches, crocheting, quilting and thrifting. She loved tending to her garden, canning food & baking cookies. She had a special fondness for watching and feeding the birds. She also had a special connection with cats and dogs. She provided a loving home for many pets over the years. Her gentle spirit and appreciation for the beauty in everyday moments will be remembered by all who knew her.
She is survived by her son Howard (Diane) Finnegan of Reedsburg; 2 grandchildren, Traci (Mike) Winius of Appleton and Shawn Finnegan of Reedsburg; 2 step-grandchildren, Danielle (Mike) Munz of Richland Center and Gunnar (Annette) Winchell of Onalaska. She leaves behind 3 great grandsons and 8 step-great grandchildren along with 1 great-great grandson and 2 step-great great grandchildren. She is also survived by her 2 brothers, John (Bonnie) Berndt of Southside, Alabama, Al (Faye) Berndt of Pikesville, KY.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband, Patrick Finnegan; as well as her parents; siblings, Anna, Romona, Bud, Marlene, Rose Mary, Donald, Burt, Dick and Doug.
A Funeral Mass will be held Saturday, March 14, 2026 at 11:00 A.M. at Sacred Heart Church in Reedsburg with Father John Blewett officiating. Visitation will be held Friday, March 13, 2026 from 4:00 P.M. until 6:00 P.M. at Grasse Funeral Home and again at Church on Saturday from 10:00 A.M. until the time of service.
She asked that any memorials be given to St. Jude’s Hospital.
