Dennis Sigmund Obituary
Dennis Sigmund, age 76, of Arlington, went home to be with his Savior Jesus Christ, Sunday, June 8, 2025 at the UW Hospital. He was born August 21, 1948 to Donald and Laurabell Sigmund in Anamosa, IA.
Dennis grew up on a farm, where he spent his early years working the land alongside his father — his best friend and greatest influence. From him, Dennis learned not only how to farm, but the value of hard work, integrity, and a love for the simple, meaningful things in life. He loved to fish and took many trips to Northern Minnesota opening weekend. Dennis attended college at the UW-Platteville and earned a degree in Soil Science and went on to work in Madison. When looking for work, he started a job driving a school bus for disabled kids. In 1971 he was the first driver for E/H, an Elderly handicapped bus service. It was to provide people who were disabled to be able to have reliable transportation. It grew and became a part of Madison Metro and was later known as Metro Plus. Dennis worked there for 18 years until he was injured on the job. During those years he was part of the NSCIA (National Spinal Cord Association Madison Chapter). He was an advocate for the disabled for their needs, which included making public areas handicap accessible, for those who could not navigate steps in the 80s. He will be remembered for his warmth, thoughtfulness, and love of gathering people together. One of his favorite traditions was coordinating the annual picnics at Owen Park in Madison, where friends and family enjoyed time outdoors, shared meals, and spent peaceful afternoons on the lake. He made many lifelong friends.
After marrying Barb, they bought a small farm in WI in 1991, where they made many lifelong friends with the neighbors. They have a deep appreciation from all the help they were given from them throughout the years. His specialty was growing organic vegetables. He was known for the best tomatoes. Dennis was a member of the Harvest Church in DeForest. Dennis loved his family, wife, step daughters, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife Barbara Sigmund; step daughters Jennifer (David) Villa and Jeannine (Toby) Tobias; grandchildren AJ Villa (Alex Ratz), Shania (Kevin) Osborne, Alexis Villa, Raven Tobias, Dakota Tobias, Zondra Tobias; and great grandchildren Addison and Kaden Osborne. He was preceded in death by his parents Donald and Laurabell; and numerous aunts and uncles.
