Christopher A Smith Obituary

Christopher Alexander Smith, age 53, went home to be with the Lord Sunday, June 02, 2024, after a brief but mighty battle with cancer. He passed peacefully in his sleep, surrounded by his loved ones. Chris was born December 5, 1970 in Madison, WI to Bonnie Jacob and Jack Smith.

He spent most of his young life in Poynette and Pardeeville, until moving to North Carolina to raise his own family. He had a 28-year career with Cardinal Glass Industries, working his way from being a cold-end technician all the way up to VPP Coordinator, which led him to Church Hill, TN. In 2022, Chris achieved a Bachelors of Science in Organizational Leadership & Management at Waldorf University to truly excel in his field. In the meantime, he was blessed with two grandsons that he adored and enjoyed immensely.

Chris was known for his kind-hearted, warm, and generous nature. He was silly, goofy, and enjoyed a good practical joke. While he wasn’t afraid to serve up some tough love when needed, he was a big teddy bear; if anyone ever needed a laugh, a hug, a hand, or a shoulder to cry on, he would jump at the opportunity to help. His time in the Army also made him a strong patriot and supporter of U.S. veterans. Besides being a phenomenal member of the community, Chris loved working on his cars, cheering on his favorite football teams (WI Packers and NC Panthers), getting new tattoos, powerlifting, and spoiling his children and grandchildren. His determination, resilience, dependability, and wisdom have made an impact on every soul he met, and those traits will live on through them.

He is survived by his son, Nicholas Smith (Tricia); daughters Kelli Gulley and Noelle Smith; grandchildren Calvin Christopher Gulley and Porter Jack Smith. He is further survived by his mother Bonnie Jacob (Richard); father Jack Smith; sister Melissa Jacob; brothers Aaron Smith, Brandon Smith (Shanna), and Benjamin Smith (Megan); as well as many nieces/nephews, cousins, friends, and his two beloved dogs, Colonel and Major. He is preceded in death by his step-mother Patricia Smith and his grandparents.

We would like to extend our endless gratitude to Holston Valley Medical Center, their diligent nursing staff and doctors that provided Chris with the most excellent, gentlest care, as well as Dusty Parsons, Tom Segelhorst, Josh & Beth Carringer, and many, many other friends that offered both Chris and his family support over the past few months and made sure Chris knew how loved he is, now and forever..

A Celebration of Life will be held at Cardinal Glass on Wednesday, June 5 from 3PM to 7PM, 700 Cardinal Way Rd, Church Hill, TN 37642. Funeral services will be held at Grasse Funeral Home on Saturday, June 15, with visitation at 10AM followed by service at 11AM, 119 Industrial Dr, Pardeeville, WI, 53954.
