Charles R. Holder. age 84, of Rio passed away Friday, January 31, 2025 at the Columbia Healthcare Center. He was born March 27, 1940 in Uriah, AL, the son of Lee and Stella Holder. 

Charles attended J4 Blacksher School and left after the 9th grade to work on the family farm. He married Nora Ann Hodges July 10, 1959 in Megargel, AL. Charles worked several different jobs before going to work as a telephone cable splicing technician. Then in 1963, he decided to start his own splicing business in Mayfield, KY. After several years of following splicing jobs in many different states, he landed in Rio where he put down for good. In 1975 while continuing to run his business, he returned to his true passion of farming. Begining with 40 acres and one tractor, he went on to farming 1000 plus acres and did probably that many in custom work for other farmers. In 2005, he turned the splicing business over to his son John and retired from farming. 

Charles was involved in the National Shoot to Retreave (NSTRA) for 20 years. He was an active member of the Wyocena Community Church and enjoyed hunting and fishing, and looking for Moral mushrooms. 

Survivors include his wife Nora Ann; daughter Charlene (Joe) Langsdorf; sons, John R. (Stacy) Holder, and Charles J. "Jeff" "Chuck" (Gloria) Holder; grandchildren, John Lee Holder, Emma Holder, Eleck Langsdorf, Abel Langsdorf, and Valley J. Holder; great grandchildren, Jair Langsdorf, Judah Langsdorf, Krew Langsdorf, Winter Langsdorf, and Levi Holder, and sister-in-law Emma Holder. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Lee Jr., Aubrey J. "AJ" and Harold "Sunny Boy"; Holder and sisters Doris Barnes and Jeanette Nall-Brannon

Memorial services will be held Saturday, February 8 at 11 AM at Wyocena Community Church with Rev. Mark Brandel officiating. Visitation will be held from 9 AM until the time of service at the church.
