Carl Herman Steinweg, age 98, of Reedsburg, passed away Friday, May 22, 2026 at Reedsburg Area Senior Life Center. He was born May 15, 1928 to Albert and Lydia Steinweg in Reedsburg, WI.

Carl was baptized June 2, 1928 by Rev. Carl Schinnerer. He attended St. Peter’s Lutheran School and was a lifelong member of St. Peter’s Church. He served as an Elder for 8 years. Carl was confirmed March 28, 1942. He graduated from Reedsburg High School in 1946.

Carl held short term jobs before starting employment  at Reedsburg Quality Hardware in 1947. He was drafted into the Army in 1950 during the Korean War and served as Private First Class in the 2nd platoon 115 Transportation Truck Co. 109 T.T. Battalion 5th Army until 1952.

Returned to employment at Reedsburg Quality Hardware after his Army discharge and became a partner in 1957. Carl was in the hardware business for 45 years and enjoyed serving his customers until retiring in 1992.

While married to Mary Schiefelbein, God blessed them with 3 children, Kurt, Kathryn (Nachreiner) and Calvin.

He coached .22 Rifle Competitive Shooting for the Reedsburg Jr. Rifle Club alongside Ted Lathrop for 20 years.

Carl enjoyed hunting, fishing, auctions, garage sales (his own and others) and gardening. He always stated that hoeing was therapeutic. Carl enjoyed woodworking and tinkering with many things and became Mr. Fix-It. He thought highly of his neighbors and enjoyed sitting outside to talk with those passing by his home.

He is survived by his daughter Kathryn (Jeff) Nachreiner; son Calvin (Sheila) Steinweg; grandchildren Ben and Lee Nachreiner, Sally (Scott) Bos; great granddaughters Sadie and Skylar.

Carl was preceded in death by his son Kurt; parents and siblings Alma, Bruno, Ruth, Henry, Ernst, Albert, Lydia, Conrad, Dorothea and Louise.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Peter’s Lutheran School or Reedsburg Area Senior Life Center.

A Funeral Service will be held Wednesday, May 27, 2026 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church with Pastor Paul Crolius officiating. Visitation will be held at 9:00 A.M until the time of service on Wednesday. Interment will be held at Greenwood Cemetery with Military Honors.
