Carl Walter Klein, age 83 of Rock Springs, passed away peacefully, Wednesday, August 23, 2023 surrounded by his family. Carl was born May 2, 1940, at the family farm to Walter and Esther (Klaetsch) Klein. He was the fourth of four children.
He attended Green Valley Elementary School and graduated from Reedsburg Area High School. After graduation Carl continued farming with his father and his brother, Clifford, on the family farm. He was a member of the Army National Guard. Carl was a lifelong member of Zion Stone Church in Rock Springs, where he served on numerous committees and boards over the years.
Carl thoroughly enjoyed spending time with his family, friends, and his dog, Tippy. He enjoyed deer and turkey hunting. He also enjoyed going to auctions. After retiring he loved to watch for wildlife. He loved sitting and watching the birds at the bird feeder, especially when he would see a Cardinal.
Carl is survived by his sister, Rosemary Christian; nieces, Donna Manglos, Bonnie Manglos Parks (Calvin), LuAnn Manglos (Jim Holzer), Theresa (Ken) Kohlmeyer, Debbie (Jay) Smith; nephew Charles (Traci) Christian; along with 7 great nieces and nephews; and 11 great great nieces and nephews. Carl was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Esther Klein; sister, Meta Manglos Kluge; brother, Clifford; brother-in-law, Raymond D. Christian; and nephew David Manglos.
The funeral service will be held Friday, September 1 at 2 PM at Grasse Funeral Home in Reedsburg with Rev. Beth Voigt officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in North Freedom. Visitation will be held from 1 PM until the time of service. The family would like to extend a special thank you to CASA De Oakes and Agrace Hospice staff. Memorials may be made to Sauk County Humane Society in Carl’s memory.
