Ava Johnson, 91 of Rio, passed away Sunday, February 9, 2025, at Prairie Ridge Hospital. She was born November 4, 1933, in Roscoe IL, the daughter of Byrnes and Ethel (Miller) Wheeler.

Ava graduated from Rio High School. She was an office manager at Rio Farmers Union Co-op for 37 years, retiring in 1998. Ava was a dedicated member of the Congregational Living Gospel Church, the American Legion Auxiliary, and the Eastern Star. Ava had a passion for traveling and explored many new places throughout her life. She also enjoyed spending time in her garden, solving puzzles, and reading, which brought her great joy and comfort.

Ava is survived by her daughters Linda (Robert) Rahn-Cook and Pamela (Keith) Miller; grandchildren; Justin Sugden, James Salzwedel, Sara (Blane) Miller, Katie (Blake) Miller, and Matthew Miller; great grandchildren Brandie Salzwedel and Alyssa Salzwedel; She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sisters; Sally Arnold and Lois Cypert; brothers; Mike Wheeler, Duke Wheeler, Richard Wheeler, Robert Wheeler, Herbie Wheeler, and Lanny Wheeler.

The Family would like to Thank all the care takers at the Randolph Health Services that cared for Ava while at the nursing Home. Their kind caring concern and insightful demeanor made her feel amongst family while there.

Equally the understanding and determined treatment of the Prairie Ridge Hospital care staff made her as comfortable as possible on all her visits. And at her most difficult time for her and the Family they always showed compassion and respect for everyone.

A funeral service will be held Friday, February 21, 2025, at 4 PM at Grasse Funeral Home in Rio with Rev. Sang Wook Park officiating. Visitation will be held from 2 PM until the time of service at the funeral home.
