Arleen G. Speich

The Good Lord must be running low on angels as he called Arleen G. Speich home April 13, 2023. She was born July 25, 1939 in Adams, Wisconsin. 

Arleen was gracious and giving, generous with her time, supporting and taking care of those around her. Arleen grew up on a farm south of Reedsburg where she was responsible for the vegetable garden and baking and cooking.  Her love of gardening was one of the cornerstones of her life.  Arleen was a graduate of Reedsburg High School, 1957, UW LaCrosse (Bachelor’s Degree in Education), 1961, and Penn State University (Master’s Degree in Education), 1966. In 1961, she began her math teaching career at Kenosha High School and continued at Racine Horlick High School, retiring in 1997. She touched the lives of many during her teaching years. Arleen was a faithful member of Friedens Lutheran Church. She was proud and supportive of her nieces, nephews, grand nieces, and grand nephews. Arleen followed all of their activities and asked about their interests and goals whenever she was with them.

She is survived by her companion of more than four decades, Roger Ludlow. They met in 1976, and he cherished her as the love of his life.  She is further survived by sister; Doris (Jerry) Meulemans, youngest brother; Harold Speich; sisters-in-law, Celia Speich and Betty Speich; friends Barbara Tolstyga and Margaret Slavik of Kenosha, and many nieces, nephews, great nieces, and grand nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Frederick and Lucille Speich, and brothers Earl and Robert Speich.

Memorial service will be held Saturday, May 13 at 11 AM at St. John Lutheran Church in Hillpoint with Rev. Daniel Lewig officiating. Inurnment will follow at Tuckertown Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 10 AM until the time of services at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials in Arleen’s name to support the Frederick and Lucille Speich Memorial Scholarship at the Reedsburg Educational Foundation; 510 K St. Reedsburg, WI 53959.
