Alton D. “Al” Bernander, 89, died June 9, 2018 in his home in Pardeeville, WI. Al was born in Portage, WI to Arlene (Nelson) and Carl Bernander on June 17, 1928. He graduated from Rio High School, class of 1945. He married Dolores (Johnson) on August 4, 1950 in Rio, WI. Al worked as a banker, insurance salesman and car salesman. Al also served in the National Guard where he played in the 32nd Division Band. He is a 50-year member of the Masonic Lodge. Al’s life was devoted to his family, surrounded by music, and enhanced by sharing the gift of gab with others. He was proudly involved in many barbershop quartets and choirs over the years. Al was preceded in death by his parents Arlene and Carl, sisters Doris and Irene, brother Robert, beloved wife Dolores and other relatives.
Al is survived by 5 sons, David (Stephanie), Jim (Gayle), Jon (Char), Kevin (Kay), and Barney, grandchildren Julia Engles, Adam Bernander, Jolene Luther, Ron Bernander, Christopher Bernander, Jesse Howe, Jake Howe, Kyle Bernander, Brad Bernander, Alec Bernander, Annie Kuelz, Jake Ayers, and Amaria Bernander and 15 great-grandchildren.
A celebration of Al’s life will be held on Saturday June 16, 2018. The visitation will be held at the First Presbyterian Church 105 South Main St. Pardeeville at10:30 AM followed by funeral services at 12:00 noon. A private interment will immediately follow the services. Friends and family will celebrate Al’s life at the previously planned 90th birthday for Al at 3 PM at Masonic Lodge, 205 DeWitt St, in Portage, WI. Memorials may be given to the First Presbyterian Church, Pardeeville.
