Vivian Grace (Babcock) Gorman, age 97, of Poynette/Rio passed away Thursday, February 14, 2019 at the Columbus Community Hospital.
Vivian was born January 4, 1922 in Rothiemay, Montana, daughter of Grant and Mae (Disbrow) Babcock. After graduating from St. Vincent’s School of Nursing in Billings, Montana; Vivian, along with her twin sister, Vera Dowdell, served as Army Air Corp Nurses in World War II. Vivian continued her nursing career by caring for many family members and friends over the years.
Vivian married LaVerne Gorman April 24, 1947 at Dekorra Lutheran Church. The two of them operated a dairy farm in the Township of Dekorra for many years.
Vivian was always busy in the kitchen cooking and baking for anyone who helped out on the farm or stopped in for a visit. There was always a place at the table for coffee, cookies, conversation and a caring ear. Vivian was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church, Rio, Badger Antique Auto Club and Dekorra Card Club for over 40 years. She spent countless hours playing cards with family and friends.
Vivian is survived by her children Larry (Geri) Gorman, Linda (Rick) Olson, Janice (Dave) Kunkel and Bruce “Butch” Gorman (Gloria Huseth); grandchildren Kim (Shane) McPeak, Bradd (Sarah) Olson, Bryan Olson, Katie (Trey) Pilston, and Jacob (Jenise) Gorman; great-grandsons, Tate and Noah Olson and Caden Gorman; brother Don (Fran) Babcock; and other relatives and many friends. Vivian was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, LaVerne, and siblings Merwin, Eileen, Anna Lou and twin sister Vera.
Funeral services with full military honors will be held at Redeemer Lutheran Church, Rio, Wednesday, February 20, at 11 AM, with Rev. Ann Walsvik officiating. Inurnment will be held at Hillside Cemetery in Poynette, immediately following the luncheon. Visitation will be held Tuesday, February 19, from 4 to 7 PM at Grasse Funeral Home, 401 Angel Way, Rio and also Wednesday from 10 AM until time of service at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to At Home Again, Badger Honor Flight, Columbus Community Hospital or Rio Redeemer Lutheran Church.
