Norman L. “Norm” Roberts, 86, of Pardeeville, passed away peacefully in his home on Monday, Dec. 3, 2018, surrounded by family.
Norm was born in Necedah on Feb. 29, 1932, to William and Margaret (Lambert) Roberts, the oldest of seven children. He attended one-room schools in Columbia and Marquette counties, and graduated from Montello High School in 1950. After high school he went to Milwaukee seeking work and got a job in construction, took the bricklayer’s apprenticeship, and became a highly respected and often sought stone mason specializing in fireplaces. His apprenticeship was interrupted by two years of military service. On June 6, 1953, he was united in marriage to Bernadine Schultz, a marriage that would span more than 65 years.
Determined to raise their children in a rural setting, they purchased a farm north of Pardeeville where they embraced the country lifestyle and taught their children the value of hard work. Farming continued to be Norm’s pursuit into his retirement years, during which he developed many of his closest friendships.
Norm is survived by his wife, Bernadine, of Pardeeville; sons, Kurt (Maria) of Pardeeville, Kevin of Rhinelander, daughter, Kathy (John) Morell of Wrightstown, sons, Kelly (Michelle) of Roseburg, Oregon, Kerry (Tina) of Rhinelander, Kris (Laura) of Pardeeville, and daughter, Kitt of Pardeeville; 28 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren; sisters, Donna (Dick) Schultz, Leah (Lloyd) Frank, Marilyn (Terry) Rutkowski, Jeannene Lauer, Carol (Corv) Schaffer; brother-in-law, Tom Clark; one uncle, Arthur Lambert, Milwaukee; numerous extended family; and dear friends, Scott and Colleen Hillstrom, Joe Rataczak, and Doug Kammer.
Norm was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Judy Clark; and brothers-in-law, Bob Brandau and Bob Lauer.
A memorial service will be planned at a future date.
