Monna Kiefer, 93 of Wyocena, passed away Tuesday, December 18, 2018 at the Columbia Healthcare Center where she has resided for the past seven years and where she had previously worked before her retirement in 1989.
She was born August 12, 1925 to James David and Bertha (Berry) Lawson in Marquette County. Monna was the forth of their five children.
As a young woman, she taught herself to knit, crochet, and sew. Throughout her life, she made many beautiful items for herself, her daughters Carolyn and Linda, and her beloved granddaughter Tammy. Monna was a wonderful cook and for many years she did it in a wood cook stove.
It was a painful decision for Monna when health issues forced her to leave her cozy little home and move to the healthcare center in 2011. However, she accepted her circumstances with grace. Her room eventually became her home, her corridor, her street, and staff and other residents became friends and neighbors. Monna and her family have been so thankful that this has brought her roommate and best friend Doris into her life in her last years.
Monna is survived by her daughters Linda (Wayne) Cornford and Carolyn Lund and sister Fern.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters Genevieve, Dorothy, and Juene; her granddaughter Tammy; and son-in-law Marv Lund.
The family will be forever thankful to the staff at the Columbia Healthcare Center for the care that Monna received. Private services will be held. Interment will be held at Marcellon Cemetery.
