Michael Schey Obituary

Michael "Mike" Schey, 73 of Rio, beloved husband, son and brother passed away at home on February 5 2018 following a year long battle with leukemia.

Born to parents Margaret (Reinen) and Gordon Schey on October 15, 1944 and grew up on the family farm in York Township. As a young boy he became his Mother's friend and protector, when his sisters were born he became their caring father figure. He attended school in East Bristol and Columbus. He worked on the family farm until he left for the Army to serve in Vietnam. He married Rosalee Birkholz November 1969 and held her hand when the Lord called her home in 1971. He met and married his soulmate, Eileen Zimbrich October 1973 at Sacred Hearts in Sun Prairie. Mike was a loyal friend and had a fierce work ethic, he enjoyed working with his hands, building, remodeling, working with his horses and mules, riding motorcycle and visiting with family over a good meal. He retired from Avis in 2017. He endured many hardships in his life, making him a strong, caring man who appreciated what was important in life.

He is survived by his wife of 44 years Eileen (Zimbrich) Schey; mother Margaret Schey of Columbus; sisters Pat Tesch of Columbus and Mary Ann Stoikes of Sauk City; sisters-in-law Peggy Kirby (Jerry) of Brookfield and Geralyn Marcum (David) of McFarland; nieces, nephews, best friend Don Olson and fur babies Stretch, Buddy and Black Bart.

He was preceded in death by first wife Rosalee, his father, baby sister Christine; special in-laws Bernard and Helen Zimbrich, brothers-in-law Tim and Eugene Zimbrich; grandparents Elmer and Laura Schey and Carl and Nellie Reinen. Not through words but by acts you showed us your love. A private service will be held with interment at a later date. Donations can be made to The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society in Mike's name. The family would like to thank Dr. Frontiera, Jen, and the staff of Dean Clinic in Columbus and the nurses of Agrace who provided Mike not only with wonderful care but their friendship.
