Liane K. Strmiska

Liane Katherine Strmiska, age 83, of Rio, passed away on Tuesday, June 20, 2017 at the Columbia Health Care Center with family at her side.  For the past five years she endured declining health with great dignity and strength.

Liane, the oldest daughter of the late Richard and Millicent (Lawler) Breunig was born in Prairie du Sac on July 25, 1933.  She was united in marriage to her high school sweetheart Dale, on April 25, 1953 at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Sauk City, WI.

She is survived by her husband Dale, who has always been her “knight in shining armor”; her children: Kimberly (Steve) Shanks, Portage; Brenda (Jack) Christensen, Portage; Sheila Strmiska, Baraboo; Kelly Taylor, Rio; Shelly Kubicek, Madison; Kenneth Strmiska (Sabina Singh), Green Bay; Katherine (Todd) Parlier, Wisconsin Dells.  Her 10 grandchildren and 2 step-grandchildren: Jeremy Shanks, Stephanie (Ike Lanman) Shanks, Dawn (Joshua) LeHuray, Lance Bennett, Shauna Vick, Angela (Brian) Varn, Chad (Ashley) Alford, Heather Kubicek, Tyler Kubicek, Nicholas Taylor, Jessica (Kyle) Chandler and Stacy (Michael) Seleskie. She was also great grandmother and step-grandmother to Justyn, Drew, Haley, Gavin, Hannah, Brooke, Joshua, Caleb, Abbey, Addison and Kennedy. Also surviving is her sister, Sharon Bernhard, Prairie du Sac.  Her son-in-law, Jerry Taylor and brother-in-law Joe Bernhard preceded her in death.

Liane and Dale spent 32 years working hard together in their grocery store, Dale’s Market while raising 7 children.  Liane was truly a blessing to all her children and she was especially proud of her two sets of twins; Kelly and Shelly and Kenneth and Katherine.  She will be remembered for her love and dedication to her family, her husband, the Rio community, her deep faith, and her beautiful smile. She was a faithful member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Rio.

A mass of Christian burial will be held on Tuesday, June 27, 2017 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Rio at 11 AM  Father Balaraj Eturi, Father Paul Eruva, and Father Raymond Dischler will co officiate with burial to follow at St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery.  Visitation will be held on Monday, June 26, 2017 at Grasse Funeral Home in Rio from 3 to 7 PM and from Tuesday, June 27, 2017 from 10 AM until the time of mass.

A special thanks to the staff at Columbia Health Care for their tender and loving care to Liane and her family. Liane will live in in our hearts and memories of her family and so many friends that she touched. We will miss you.
