Jerome Peterson Obituary

Pardeeville - The heavenly gates opened up their doors as Jerome "Pete" D. Peterson entered them on Angel's wings Sunday, February 10, 2019, surrounded by his loving family after a short but courageous battle with MSD (bone marrow cancer).  He was born April 28, 1943, the son to Vern and Elsie (Halverson) Peterson at the Poynette Hospital.   He married Barbara Martin April 29, 1967.

Jerome graduated from Poynette High School in 1961 and bought the family farm located in North Leeds. His hard work ethics and dedication to raising fine crops and livestock was his pride and joy and he enjoyed sharing his knowledge with his nephews, nieces and other family members during the summer months.  Working on the farm may have been hard work but the good times and the memories will remain in our hearts forever.  After 44 years of farming, his career led him to Covance Labs where he was a Lab Animal Tech until his retirement.

Jerome had many hobbies in his life: he enjoyed playing Euchre (cards), fishing, hunting, canning, gardening, "road trips", ice fisheries, Sports Banquets, and fast pitch softball but as the years progressed, he found a new niche in life - horseshoes.  It wasn't unusual to hear the clanging of shoes in his backyard as he would be practicing for an upcoming tournament or League Night.  As a result of this passion for horseshoes, it flowed to his family members as well. For the past 25 years, he threw in the Monday Night Horseshoe League with his sons and on the weekends, it wouldn't be uncommon to see Jerome and his sons, daughters, nephews, and or nieces throwing in tournaments by his side.

Jerome was an avid Badger, Packer and Brewers fan but he was also a big fan of two Pardeeville Bulldogs and one Rio Viking.  Jerome's granddaughters were the "Apples in his Eyes".  He took great pride in watching them grow academically and athletically.  Whether they were playing volleyball, basketball, cheerleading, softball, or soccer, regardless of the weather, Grandpa would be there by their side and only a phone call away if they needed assistance.

Jerome is survived by his wife Barbara of 51 years; his four children, Jill Peterson, Brenda Price, Richard (Kim) Peterson and Ryan (Mary) Peterson; three granddaughters, Courtney Peterson,  Emily Price and Brooke Peterson and one on the way in August; sister Eleanor Corning; sisters-in-law, Shirley Peterson, and Linda (Larry Tessman); brothers-in-law, Russ Martin and Ron Martin; and many nephews, nieces, cousins and friends and his fury companion Brute, his black lab.  Jerome was preceded in death by his parents, brother LaVern Peterson, son-in-law, Nathan Price, brother-in-law, Donald Corning and nephew, Dale Peterson.
