James A. Douma

James Alan (Jim) Douma, formerly of Wyoming, Michigan, passed away Tuesday, May 9, 2017, at Tivoli/Divine Savior Healthcare in Portage after a years-long struggle with Alzheimer’s/dementia.

Jim was born November 30, 1946, in Beaver Dam, to Andrew A. and Grace (DeVries) Douma. He lived in the Randolph area until moving to Michigan in the 1970’s where he resided until 4 years ago.

Jim was a skilled mechanic and handyman. He also loved to garden, and took special pride in the beautiful flowers that surrounded his yard. He had a keen eye for photography and took many pictures that he enlarged, framed and had displayed throughout his house. He loved to ride his bicycle on the many miles of trails in the Grand Rapids area.

Jim is survived by his siblings, Aubrey (Linda) Douma, Phyllis (Wayne) Wiersma, Ruth (Glenn) Lindert , and David Douma, and nieces, nephews, and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Tivoli for their patient, compassionate care of Jim the past several years and Agrace Hospice for their support in Jim’s final days.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, May 15, 2017, at First Randolph Christian Reformed Church in East Friesland. Service and burial will be private at a later date.
