Henry H. Bennett

December 9, 1926 ~ October 11, 2017 (age 90) 90 Years Old

Henry H. Bennett, age 90 of Rio, died Wednesday, October 11, 2017 in Baraboo.

He was born December 9, 1926 to Fred and Maybel Bennett. Henry was enrolled in school at Portage and completed two years of high School before working in Chicago and Milwaukee for the St. Paul and Pacific Railroad for one year prior to entering the U.S. Army.  Henry joined and served in the 41st Infantry February 19, 1945 to November 29, 1946. While serving in the armed forces, he received the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, the World War II Victory Medal, and the Army of Occupation Medal. Henry had completed basic training at Fort McCellan, AL and was stationed in Hero, Japan and Yokahama, Japan.  

January 28, 1951 Henry was united in marriage to the former June A. Betts in Portage. It was -37 degrees the day they were married. Henry and June were blessed with two boys Gregory and Jeffrey. Henry worked for Findorf for 44 years from which he retired. Henry was a wonderful, loving, caring, and outgoing person who was a friend to all and provided well for his family. He also was an avid hunter and fisherman that he enjoyed doing with his wife and two sons.

Henry will be deeply missed by all who knew him especially his loving wife June of Rio, two sons Gregory of Rio and Jeffrey (Marcia) of Markesan; five grandchildren Jeremiah (Jennifer) of Stoughton, Jason (Sarah Bohn) of Stoughton, Celyna of Markesan, Dawn (Josh) of Richmond, VA, and Lance of Portage; seven great grandchildren Branden (Alexis), Brady (Tasha Erickson), Bryce, Cameron, Breana, Chloe, and Teigan.

He was preceded in death by father Fred, mother Maybel and five half-sisters.

Funeral Services with full military honors by the Rio American Legion Post 208 will be held Tuesday, October 17 at 11 AM with Rev. Karrie Landsverk officiating. Interment will follow at Rocky Run Cemetery in Lowville Township. Visitation will be held Monday, October 16 from 4 to 7 PM at Grasse Funeral Home in Rio and again from 10 AM until the time of services Tuesday at the funeral home.
