David L. Dowdell

With his family by his side, our beloved David died September 9, 2017 at Columbus Community Hospital at the age of 56.

David was born December 5, 1960, the son of Maurice and Donna (Linck) Dowdell. After graduating from Rio High School, David made his home in Doylestown. Anyone who knew David appreciated his dry sense of humor and witty one-liners. His favorite things to do included taking road trips with his best friend Eric, gardening, camping, and caring for his dogs. His fondness of Christmas and Halloween was evident by the spectacular light displays he put up at his home each year.

In 2013, David was diagnosed with the incurable disease, Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), also known as Lou Gehrig's disease. Despite the excruciating physical symptoms caused by the disease, David never complained, and maintained his positive attitude and sense of humor until the very end.

David’s survivors include his mother Donna; sisters Sandra (Donald Stofflet); Cynthia (Jeff Mochalski); brothers Michael (Tracy); Steven (Sherri); nephews Daniel (Teresa) Stofflet; Shawn (Dawn Hawkinson) Stofflet; Spencer and Seth Dowdell, and Jeremy Dowdell and niece Dagny Mochalski. David is also survived by great niece Rebecca Stofflet; great nephews Zander and Zach Stofflet; uncle Doug Cole; and, his long-time best friend Eric Stensrud.

David was preceded in death by his father Maury; niece Jessica Dowdell Miller; great nephew Tyler Stofflet; his four-legged friends Buster and Gus; and grandparents, aunts, and uncles.

David’s family would like to extend their sincere appreciation and gratitude to Eric for the care, comfort, and support he provided to David throughout the course of his illness.

Please join us in honoring David’s life and mourning his death. Visitation will be held Thursday, September 14, from 4-7 PM at Grasse Funeral Home in Rio. Funeral services will be held Friday, September 15 at 11 AM with visitation beginning at 10 until the time of services at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Doylestown. Burial will take place immediately following at St. John’s Cemetery. Lunch and a time for reminiscing and sharing stories will be at Grasse Funeral Home after burial. Rest in peace now dear David. You will be greatly missed.
